Privacy policy
Last updated: 27 October 2026
Duolla ("the app") is a shared planner for two people: a shared calendar, chores, lists and a memories scrapbook. This policy explains what information the app collects, why, where it's kept, and the choices you have. It's written to be read, not to be hidden behind.
The short version: we only store what you put into Duolla so it can sync between you and your partner. We don't sell your data, we don't show adverts, and we don't use your information to track you across other apps or websites.
Who we are
Duolla is made by James Tovey, an independent developer in the United Kingdom, who is the "data controller" for the information described here. You can get in touch at support@duolla.app.
What we collect and why
| Information | Why we need it |
|---|---|
| Account details: your email address, a password (stored securely by our sign-in provider, never visible to us) and your first name. If you sign in with Apple or Google instead, we receive your email address and, if you choose to share it, your name. | To create your account, sign you in, and show your name to your partner. |
| What you add to the app: events, to-dos, chores, reminders, lists, notes, birthdays, anniversaries, dates and memories, plus your chosen colours and settings. | This is the app itself. It's stored so it syncs between your phone and your partner's. |
| Photos you choose to add: a home-page photo and photos in Memories. Photos are reduced in size before upload. | To show them to you and your partner in the app. We only access the photos you pick; the app never browses your photo library. |
| Your phone's own calendars (optional): if you turn on calendar sharing in Settings, the times of entries from the calendars you select, and their titles only if you choose to share titles. | So your partner can see when you're busy. You choose which calendars, and you can turn it off at any time, which removes them from Duolla. |
| Activity: a record of changes such as "added Dinner on Friday", with who made them and when. | To show the in-app notifications list. |
| Technical and crash information: if the app crashes, a crash report including the device model, operating system version, app version, what went wrong and an anonymous account ID (so we can tell whether a problem affects one phone or several). It does not include your name, email address, or the contents of your calendar, lists or photos. | To find and fix problems. |
| Feedback you send: your message, with your name, email address, phone type, system version and app version. | To read it, reply to you and fix problems. Deleted with your account, or sooner if you ask. |
| Notification address: if you allow notifications, a push address for your phone. | So we can tell you when your partner adds or changes something. It's removed when you sign out. |
Reminders are scheduled on your own phone. We don't collect your location, contacts, or advertising identifiers, and the app contains no adverts.
Who can see your information
- Your partner: everything in your shared Duolla (events, chores, lists, memories, photos, activity) is visible to the one other person who has joined your shared calendar. Your personal calendar entries are visible to them only if you turn sharing on.
- Our service providers, who store and process data on our behalf and aren't allowed to use it for anything else:
- Google Firebase (Google LLC): sign-in, database and file storage.
- Expo (650 Industries, Inc.): delivering app updates and, where enabled, push notifications.
- Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.): crash reporting, stored on Sentry's servers in the European Union (Germany).
- Google Play / Apple App Store: distributing the app and handling any purchases.
- Nobody else. We never sell your information or share it with advertisers. We'd only disclose it if required to by law.
Where your information is stored
Your account and everything you add to Duolla, including photos, is stored on Google's servers in London, UK. Crash reports are stored in Germany. Some of our providers are based in, or may process data in, the United States. Where information leaves the UK, it's protected by the safeguards those providers have in place under UK data protection law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum and the UK-US Data Bridge.
Our legal basis
We use your information to provide the service you've asked for (performing our agreement with you). We use crash reports on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the app working properly.
How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as you have an account. If you delete your account in the app, your personal information is deleted straight away; if you ask us by email, within 30 days. We keep nothing afterwards unless the law requires it. Things you created in a shared calendar may remain visible to your partner until they also delete them or their account. Crash reports are automatically deleted after a limited period.
Your choices and rights
- Edit or delete anything you've added, at any time, in the app.
- Turn personal-calendar sharing and notifications on or off in Settings.
- Download a copy of your data at any time, in the app under Settings → Account → Download a copy of our data. The copy is deleted from our servers within a day.
- Delete your account and data: see how to delete your account.
- Ask us to correct your data, or to restrict or object to how we use it.
To make a request, email support@duolla.app. We'll reply within one month. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections, and access to your shared calendar is restricted to its two members. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Children
Duolla is intended for adults and isn't directed at children under 16. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top, and tell you in the app if the changes are significant.
